I have a Acer aspire 5742z and the battery is faulty.
The original battery is a AS10D73 11.1V 4400MaH/48Wh. Looking to buy a replacement and found many alternatives (see links below) but the voltage is lower........ 10.8v. Is it safe to buy and use? It says the battery is compatible with my laptop model.
Any advice would be greatly welcomed.

The first link would be my first/only choice. Although it is less than 3% difference in Voltage - the capacity is what I would be also concerned with (8% more...).
Scroll down and see that the label on the battery itself actually says 11.1V. -
There are quite a few different sellers all saying the V is10.8. for this model..... But I just noticed the picture so good spot.
Although if i bought this battery and it did show10.8v on it.... would you use it if you were in my shoes? -

Yes I would; like I said - less than 3% difference from the 'nominal' spec's and higher capacity too.

do yourself a favor... even though it will cost more.. buy an OEM 9-cell battery from acer... (and i never say by spares from acer UNLESS IT's A BATTERY)
i've seen these ebay batterys work fine for 6 months then just crap out....
i currently have 3 of the OEM 6 cell batteries that are 5 years old... all still function... and cause me no problems other than loss of max charge capacity.... and ACER is actually good about replacing anying that is defective. -
Guess it's all hit and miss as with everything on eBay. I never had an issue with eBay batteries, but up to you. I wouldn't be concerned about voltage though. Batteries/AC adapters and stuff rarely have exact voltage anyway. Laptops have regulators built in to fix it all.

What are you talking about, Ebay batteries? You know what Ebay is, right? They do NOT manufacture batteries and should not be thought of as such.
You can find crappy non OEM batteries on Ebay, you can find fake batteries trying to pass as OEM on ebay, and I'm sure you can even find batteries that have been rebuilt by hand and have higher capacity cells in them. All of these choices come from different sellers on ebay and none of them are a good reason to avoid Ebay in its entirety. It simply doesn't make sense to do that.
I think lower voltage batteries might give you a little more life, whereas higher voltage batteries might be able to prevent throttling of your graphics card when unplugged.
Replacing an Acer battery.... please help
