My Dell Inspiron 1520 power adapter stopped working a few days ago.

My friend lent me his universal power adapter so I can use my laptop for now, but I'm going to need to buy a new cord.

Is there any reason not to just buy something like this from eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-AC-Power-Ada...item3ef69170f7

Or do I really need to shell out $70+ for a "real" Dell adapter?

You can buy genuine Dell power adapters for not that much on eBay. I'd definitely recommend a genuine part over something fake and just slightly cheaper. The fake ones usually work fine, but usually is the operative word here.

I found genuine Dell adapters on eBay, they are only a little more expensive so definitely worth it. However, some of them say they are compatible with an Inspiron 1520 even though the model number of the adapter is different. Does the model number have to be exactly the same?

The model doesn't have to be the same, just the specs have to be the same.
Current and voltage. And the pinout.
