Help. It seems silly, but I can't get the back panel off to access the hard drive to replace it in my Sony Vaio VGN-S260. I've taken out all the screws I can find, but the top panel seems to be stuck in the middle near the keyboard. Naturally, Sony is no help at all. I can pry the top up enough to see the hard drive, but am afraid to go further without breaking something.

I know other Sony models have hidden screws around the USB port or speakers, but I can't find any on the VGN-S260.

    Would really appreciate answers.

    Thanks!!

Perhaps you can get the service manual from Sony.

I have the same problem with my s260. I'm trying to replace my hard drive that died on me. I think it got fried. Please let me know if you find out how to remove the panel. Thanks in advance.

The panel where the power and other buttons are situated will have screws towards the edges, u need to remove them and then remove the panel and then deattach the keyboard from the case- do look out for more hidden screws!
probably best option wud b to remove all visible screws :)

I recently came across this same problem when trying to replace the hard drive on my Vaio VGN-A240. After removing all the underside screws with arrows pointing to them, I still could not remove the top panel. The keyboard did come off though (you have to pry it up from below the space bar). After disconnecting the ribbon cable, there are two silver screws in the center area that need to be removed. After removal, the cover comes off and mainboard exposed. The hard drive is in the lower left corner but keep in mind there are a couple smaller modules that need to be removed first. Just remember to plug in all the ribbon cables as you put it back together!
