just got an Alienware 15 r4 to replace an r2. The 15r4 has a 4K AOC b156zan02.0 display. Colors are good but not 100% adobe rgb like the 15r2’s Sharp lq156d1jw02. So I learned that the AOC b156zan02.1 is the same make and resolution as the 15r4 4K display but with much better colors, son i ordered it thinking it would have identical connector. Turns out it is what I am guessing is 40pin, as it has a slightly larger connector than the laptop motherboard display connector. My 15r2 came with the aforementioned Sharp panel..beautiful colors.. but to play it safe on connector I opted for the AOC 2.1 and turns out it is a larger connector on display. I’m assuming it is 40 pin. The Sharp appears to have a smaller connector so I’m assuming 30 pin.
So I should have gotten the another Sharp since the smaller connector likely matches the 15r4 motherboards panel connector , since both are smaller. Why not use the Sharp from the 15r2 you may ask. Because it is touch panel and got damaged anyway. I need non-touch.y
So I have 2 choices.. find a 30 pin to 40pin adapter cable or get another Sharp lq156d1jw02, non-touch, which hopefully always come with the smaller connector..
My questions are:
1. Am I safe to assume the larger connector on AOC b156zan02.0 is 40 pin and the Sharp lq156d1jw02 is 30 pin?
2. Can the pcb at bottom of these lcd panels be disconnected and used on other panels? For example, can I take one off of a 30pin display and remove the one from the 40 pin display and replace with the one removed from 30 pin display?
3.i believe Alienware 15r2 is a full 4 lanes. And assumed 15r4 is same... but the former came with 30 pin sharp panel and latter comes with 30 pin AOC panel.. and I read somewhere that 40 pin is 4 lanes, 30 pins is 2 lanes.
Could someone help clear things up for me?

good news:
the touch screen is a separate component called the digitizer
i'm no expert on how they mesh but at the worst case - you can disable the touchscreen via device manage.
double check though with DELL
Quite surprised that you reckon the sharp you have is a 30 pin one given the same panel was used in the Dell precision and it states the cable being a edp 40 pin cable...
Replacing laptop lcd panel - question about pins. please help!
