I'm thinking of replacing my DVD burner with a Bluray burner sometime. I've been looking at various drives, and some very obviously will not fit and are made for desktops. I have seen a couple that would fit in a laptop, but no info on how big it is. How do I determine if a drive will fit in my laptop?

Also, my current drive has a special angular face on the front that makes it look flush with the chassis. is there a way to take that off and attach it to the new drive, or am I stuck with the flat-faced drive?

First you need to check if you drive is a 9.5mm or 12.7mm drive. And make sure the one you are going to buy is the same. Also make sure that the connector is the same. (sata or pata)

Yes, the faceplate should be removable. There should be a few tabs that keep it in place.

Go to your drive properties and Google the device to find out the physical specs of your ODD.
