well yea but i heard that the Tuniq x3 is the best on the market right now and its even better than the AS5. Also should i use 99% alcohol or can i go a bit lower. Whats the difference?

    Ok i see.

Id stay with 99% alcohol, it cleans better and evaporates quick so you dont damage anything.

Yeah.... alcohol is alcohol bud, i know this sounds stupid but hey, rub it with some Jack and it'd do the same job.. :p and you can actually take a swig of it yourself. However it's only 40% alcohol content so it could damage other things, but just let it evaporate and she should be mint. Acetone might work too if you really want the best best micro-finish, but idk if it reacts with silicon.

Use some microfiber cloth. Cotton-wool on Q-tip is bad.

I used MX3 and rubbing alcohol from walgreens, you know the one for 99 cents. Rubbing alcohol is not to be used on any rubber, plastic, soft material parts so try to avoid contact. Use it to clean the CPU die and the copper/aluminum radiator only and don't pour liquid directly on them, use a cloth.

Yes the one used for cleaning screens is fine BUT you can not use it to clean your screen anymore or your glasses once you used it for this purpose. Consider it done and throw it away when you're thru with it.

Cotton balls are not bad. It is what I have been using since day one. Also you don't need 99% isopropyl alcohol. Anything at least 90% is excellent and really cheap. If you want 99% go to the hardware store because they have it there and it is cheaper than on ebay. Also don't get the applicator soggy, just damp. Squeeze off excess alcohol because you don't need much.

wow, look at all the hand-thrashing regarding cleaning heat-goop.

Clean it. Well. With materials that don't harm the chips or the circuit boards. Don't leave threads or residue behind. Other specifics are unimportant.

AS5 is a good TIM, but there are better alternatives out there now.

Use 99% alcohol and qtips or cotton balls.

I use q-tips /cottonswabs to apply any kind of muscle when the gunk just wont come off. %70 alcohol is my cleaner. Never had any problems. Even covered the exposed transistors of a CPU and it still works tip top.
Coffee filters make the best for drying, as a cotton swab can leave hairs and coffee filters are more absorbent.

use 99%, or better yet, 100% alcohol, anything less, and you risk leaving behind residue that could either reduce the cooling efficiency, or even risking damage to your laptop if it's conductive and it touched the circuit components in your motherboard.
