My intention is to purchase a 120GB SSD and place it as my primary drive and use a 750GB 7200rpm as my secondary drive to replace the optical drive.

The first part seems easy enough. I'd have to back-up the current drive, remove it, install the SSD, insert the backup DVD which will install Windows, correct?

Once I remove the optical drive, I'll need brackets to hold the secondary drive, right? Do I buy the bracket from ebay and are they universal for laptops (meaning one fits all)?

This will be my first time doing anything like this, so advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Edit: This will be for the Asus K53TA.

    Cheers

Oh, and one last thing - When shopping for an SSD, I was trying to find the closest dollar to GB ratio with performance.

    I found:

    and

Are there better choices or did I find a good deal?

You will need a caddy for the hdd,
this one has been reported to work on Sager NP8130s

And this one definately will work but is alot more expensive

In regard to the SSD, stay away from OCZ drives and drives with Sandforce controllers.

Look at either the crucial M4 or Samsung 830, best would be Intel 510(but alot more expensive)

Thank you for the reply :) +rep

I should of mentioned this in the first post, but the laptop in question is the Asus K53TA (my travel laptop).

Shame that OCZ isn't recommended. It was the only 1$/per GB closest ratio I could find - everything seems alot more expensive.

Guess it's back to SSD hunting lol ;)
