    Hi! :D

I'm looking into the possibility of buying a 128ish GB SATA III SSD for a new laptop, but I've read about a LOT of terrible experiences with BSODs and freezing, particularly with drives using the Sandforce controller like Corsair and OCZ. From some research, it doesn't seem like these issues have been satisfactorily resolved yet, at least not with the OCZ.

So, my question is, is there really a reputable and cheap SSD out there? I understand that Intel 510s are more or less rock solid, but they're also pricier than most other drives I've been looking at. Are Crucial M4s considered reliable? There are a number of reviews on Newegg wherein people report some bad experiences, although not as many as the OCZ or Corsair drives.

Also, is there a price decrease on the horizon for SSDs? The best deal I can find right now is about $1.64/GB for the Crucial M4 128 GB. Is that particularly good? Is it going to give me the reliability that I seek?

Cheap, fast and reputable, you cannot use all 3 in one sentence. You are probably looking at an Crucial M4 SSD or Intel 510 series SSD.

M4 is a very good drive, as is the Intel 510. As for price movement, it is hard to say. I haven't seen much movement in the last couple months.

I went for the M4 128 GB, in the end. Found it for $200 CAD, which I thought was a nice deal overall. Now, to choose the new laptop to put it in. :D Haven't decided, but I knew I wanted an SSD, so I jumped on it. :p

(For interested Canadians, the $200 M4 is a current deal on vastech.ca, and NCIX.ca was willing to price match it for me.)

That's a good price, about the lowest I've seen the 128 at. I've seen $199 US on special sales, but you're only ~$4 beyond that, and that sale was a while back.
