Im one of those ppl who wont retire my old clevo and im sure many of you love your old bulky laptops too and dont really wish to buy a new one yet.
Im wondering the power required for rx470m and what dimensions it fits and panel requirements.
Cmon amd lemme breath life into my Everything else good but the GPU dont cut it anymore laptop: at an affordable price.
I been googling forever to no avail except for the alienware leaks so to speak and speculation. Anywhere has something solid yet? hands on.

RX480M MXM 3.0b exists. However no-one's got one working stable on a Clevo yet. They work, they fit, they boot, but the laptop beeps like mad and powers off in a minute because a thermal signal is missing - the Clevo EC does this supposedly to protect the GPU from dying due to a failed thermal sensor (so, it forces the GPU to play dead instead). Or, maybe this is a convenient way of Clevo locking out third party cards. Hmmmm.
Even if it were to work there's still the question of power draw, it's quoted the same "150W TDP" as the desktop RX480 which is very high for a single slot MXM. But, the desky 480 responds very well to undervolting, that however hurts overclock potential, and compared to its performance competitor the 1060, which overclocks well and starts at around 80W, that's why there's been little interest anyway. There's rumours of a revised Polaris 10 based MXM 3.0b "E9550" which is the same chip at 120W, but there's still no evidence of its existence apart from its announcement
As for the 460M/470M I haven't seen any MXMs of them (existing models are probably all BGA soldered to mobo), and are still only comparable with 970M/980M in the few benches around, so go for one of them. Or if you must have a latest gen you can go for a MSI 1060 MXM (not clevo version with wierd shape and extra power connector requirement) with a bit of help from @woodzstack here on the forums to make sure you get the right vbios and your existing heatsink will fitLast edited: Jan 16, 2017FluffyPuppy likes this. -
woodzstack Alezka Computers , Official Clevo reseller.
Yeah i have 1060N's and they are great! The AMD(mobile) cards have always been a disappointment, they always die, but are relatively cheap/inexpensive seemingly, until you factor in your going to be replacing it three times before you learn your lesson.

Yeah, like nGREEDIA's 9 series aren't dying left and right, or anything 5 series, or anything 100W. It might take a a bit longer*, but eventually you'll have a paperweight. GPUs are dying, deal with it and stop pointing finger in only one direction!
* Not exactly granted, compare 780m vs 8970m. The 680m vs 7970m is what you are referring to, it doesn't stop 680ms from dying though. What about 580m/675m vs 6970m? Yes, 6970m die, but tell me a single 580m/675m that's stock (i.e. came with the laptop and is still kickin')? It's about tie in this case.
