I am going to be doing a clean install of Windows 7 on my laptop soon and wanted to freshen up my SSD as well, I will make a backup of my SSD so I want to just reset it before I made all the optimizations and I don't mind deleting all the data on it either...how do I do this?

You need to use HDparm. There are a lot of guides out there to using HDparm to give the trim command. Also, you really don't have to do this. Windows 7 supports trim and will trim the driver when idle. Just leave the computer turned on for 1 night and it should be good as new.

You'll want to look at something called "secure erase" (SE). There are many tools out there, and as metril stated, hdparm is one of them.
