I have a sony vaio VPCF12M1E, which has been working fine till I started it up this morning.

The screen resolution (which previously was set to 1920x1080) was suddenly set to 600x800 and the 1920x1080 resolution was gone! The highest resolution i can get now is 1280x1024 and everything is blurry. Also, windows taskbar seem to have reset itself to its standard basic settings and not see-through and fancy as before. Is my graphics card playing up?

    Help please! Much appreciated :)

    Try reinstalling the graphics driver.

I've tried this already but it doesn't seem to work. The graphics are still weird and I still cna't get a higher resolution than 1280x1024  Why did my computer all of sudden decide to change?
Would it help to reformat the hard disk?

Have you tried known good RAM? It's also possible your GPU is having issues.

I'm afraid I haven't much experience with known good RAM and how to modify it. If the issue is with my gpu, does that mean I have to send it to repair?

Well it's one thing that you can rule out, troubleshooting 101.

If it is under warranty, then yes you will have to RMA the computer to Sony. Make sure you back up your data, Sony could, and probably will reimage the laptop.

It's either VAIO PM or one of the other VAIO services. You need all of them running (except the battery care one which is optional). Hit "WinKey" and "R", type in "services.msc" and check which one is stopped or disabled and get them started again. Switch the graphics out of power saving mode after that.
