Can anyone help me with a resolution problem? My laptop is set to 1280*800 and I can successfully attach it through VGA to my Samsung 37 LCD to give a max of 1280*768. Howe-ever, the native resolution to the TV is 1360*768 so I'm a bit short. The picture is not bad, but my prehistoric PC manages no problem. Does anyone know how I can up my resolution to 1360? Doesnt give me an option in the display properties, yet my old pc managed fine. Plz help!!!!

I may be that your graphics card on your computer can't handle that resolution.
Do you know what graphics card you have?

Right click the desktop, and then go to properties. Then go to the settings tab.
In that tab, you will see two blue boxes, one with a number "1" in it, and one with the number "2" in it.
Click on the box with the number "2" in it, this is for connecting to an external monitor.
Then move the slider, until you select the 1360x768 resolution.
Then click apply and then ok, and then the screen will revert the external monitors resolution to 1360x768.

    I hope this helps,

    K-TRON

Yeah, its just the basic Intel Express Chipset 965. Tried the laptop on my cousins TV - exact same model except 40in and it worked no problem, and he has much the same graphics card. Tried updating the drivers, no avail.

Switching to monitor 2 using the VGA still does'nt offer me 1360x768 - although it does offer resolutions up to about the 2000 mark!

    Any ideas?

I still think its the graphics card you have that cannot support that resolution. Or you may need drivers for the TV.

Yeah, from what I remember (I was working on a project that dealt with all this stuff about 2 years ago), the display (TV) actually sends data back to the computer to tell it which resolutions it supports. However, not all manufacturers set up this data correctly. I hope it is either TV drivers or your chipset, otherwise it is a hardware problem with your TV, and you'll just have to live with it. :(
