So I have a Dell Studio XPS 16 (see my sig) with a 256GB Samsung SSD. So what I'm wondering, is since my drive doesn't support TRIM (yet), when I do a re-install it's really the only time I can regain performance, what should I do. Do I just install Windows how I normally would, or do I have to do something first. I saw there was a firmware update tool floating around for Samsung drives in the SSD thread, and it seemed to come with a utility that did nand erase.....is that the only way to go about this?
I have a Samsung PM800 / PB22-J

yes,my friend flashed tis frimware to his Supertalent SSD, and it works excellent under Raid0.

I'm using the GC firmware and Tony TRIM (it may be redundant but I do it anyway) and my read/write performance is nearly the same as it was when I first got the SSD. It's almost 50% full too so I'm happy with it until TRIM support is released.

okay, so i finally have the time to flash it, going to do it today, the one thing that got me curious wheni was reading the directions, is:
1. 1. Download Main firmware
You can download ‘mf.bin’ file to SSD drive. All data would be reserved including user data. You can see the following picture if download was completed successfully.
2. Download Initialize firmware
You can download ‘if.bin’ file to SSD drive. All data would be erased including mapping table, so please be careful to do this. You should download ‘mf.bin’ file after this step to use SSD. (Result message is same as ‘mf.bin’
now, in step 2, is it telling me to do step one again? would it be download mf, then if, then mf again, and then nand erase? -

max420,
Yes, I remember reading that in the SSD thread; you have to do step one, when you do step two.
Good luck. -
if I remeber right, step 2 will erase ur entire NAND, then back to step 1 to flash the SSD, if you do step 1 direct, it has a chance u wont be able to flash the ssd

so i booted from the usb key into win98/dos, did step 1 for the main firmware, then did step 2, and then step 1 again, and then the NAND flash which was step 4, step 3 was not in the menu for maindiag. im just installing Win7 right now, ill let y'all know how the numbers look.

btw, no need to reinstall for reverting to performance. backup to some system, reset with help of the firmware upgrad,e, restore the backup.
but i haven't had need for it yet. no trim here on my systems, some around 1 year old.
