So the laptop battery has died, I think - it tells me it's at 100% charge under Windows, but as soon as I unplug the mains power, it turns off immediately.
Is there a way of hopefully getting the battery to be refreshed, so that it will hold at least a bit of charge? People say stuff like putting it in the freezer, etc. etc. Do any of these actually work?

Read the Notebook Battery Guide ??

thanks! Will have a read whilst I'm bored at work now.

Andy, I couldn't find anything in the battery guide...

Download Notebook Hardware Control and RMClock and see if they give any indication about the battery's wear. Plus freezing the battery is not a solution. You can keep it in a sealed plastic bag, in the refrigerator, and see if that helps in anyway.

In addition to what Andy said also check to see if your notebook has a battery recall. If you're lucky there was a known defect and you can get a new battery for free from the manufacturer
. Check out the manufacturers support site for that info.
