I've always had crappy crackly sound on this Dell Vostro, tried everything but nothing fixed and Dell annoyingly told me it wasn't a problem multiple times. But when I went from 32bit win7 build 7000 to 64bit RC1 it was just ridiculous. Check out the pic.
Anyone else have this prob?

running any other programs while testing this?
-
yes but have tried w/out, actually I figured it out, it is my wireless card that is jacking it all up, unfortunately that is the component I use the most. If you know of any non -std drivers for 64bit dell wirelessness let me know.

Ya I tried it was already uptodate according to windows at driver version 4.176.75.23 however after more research driver versions 5.10.38.26 and beyond fix the latency problem but windows will not install them. I am currently looking for a way to delete the old drivers from a different OS but can't seem to find there location on disk aside from the SYS files.

read the docs for your dpc checker.
you will find that the software maker cautions that the tool will give unreliable and variable results under vista and presumeably win7.
If you are going to measure something, make sure that you know what your measuring, how those measurements are taken, that the tool you are using is reliable, and how to read the results. -
Newsposter are you trying to tell me that I do not have a dpc latency problem? The sentence I just typed did not appear at all in the text box until I was halfway through typing it, the second half of the sentence then did not appear until I had hit the period. Calling results into question because they are unfavorable is silly.

No I am not telling you that you do not have a latency problem.
I am saying that the tool that you and a few others are using use to try and measure the possible severity of the problem is, in the absence of any other documentation from the maker, not reliable.
Instead of relying on a single tool that is known to NOT work reliably in Vista/Win7 there has to be other tools out there that do work.
Knowing that there is a problem is one thing. Using a decent tool to diagnose the problem and possible help out with a fix are two different things. -
did you update your intel matrix manager to 8.8? if not, do so.
-
.
And no I cannot install 8.8 storage matrix drivers as it tells me my hardware is insufficient which of course is BS. I'm regretting making the jump to 64bit.

define dpc latency.
And remember that kernel mode dpc servicing is by definition a software, not a hardware problem. -
that said...indeed install the latest IMSM version 8.8 and try exactly what is stated in DPC latency checker....disabling devices one by one and see what makes a difference in latency. And again, try a search for this issue, there's loads of threads about this problem and a LOT of solution for it. The threads i've seen where it hasn't been solved really look like they're trying to fix it without having looked if others already tried because they're still trying stuff that has already been tested etc. Search the forum....especially the one related to latitudes is very helpful -

Thanks LPTP LVR, Yah I have done a lot of research on it the past and looked through these forums for hours. The problem is I am unable to implement the solutions (IMSM 8.8 always says "hardware insufficeint" probly cuz I'm in ATA mode, and won't install, have tried several different versions. New wireless drivers also won't install because Win7 doesn't recognize them as newer even when I try it manually). I see your running win7 too, did you have problems installing IMSM 8.8 and if so did your bios allow you to switch modes gracefully?
