    Hi,

I am just about to finish putting together my MSI Barebones laptop with an Nvidia 570m and 2820QM QS. I have quality compound (MX-4) for the CPU/GPU, but no thermal pads for the VRAM and VRM on the GPU, or the VRM for the CPU on the motherboard. Is it dangerous to run like this while I am waiting for the pads to arrive, or will it be fine for a few days?

    Cheers,

    Scott

You can use mx-4 on the Vrams too.

Ive done it before with no problems.

Hi, don't I need to use pads to fill the clearance? I'm not sure mine fits really snugly vs. the CPU/GPU, which is obviously v. tight fitting.

IF the gap is large enough you'll need pads and do not under any circumstances run the card without something to cool the vram.

The card runs perfectly fine with uncooled VRAM, they're not running that hot, really.

why don't you just reuse the stock pads until the new stuff comes?

No stock pads. It's a barebones and I just did not realize I needed em. Whats the verdict on VRAM and VRM on GPU and VRM on without pads for a few days? Dangerous?

download HWINFO64 and run a bench like 3dmark11...keep on eye on your temps in the vid card sensor section (there will be 3 different readings, from different sensors). This is the only way to see if your temps are getting too hot or not. i wouldn't risk it without doing a test like this first.

OK cool, so not outright dangerous then, just one to watch. Cheers!

As I said, it's no problem at all. And HWiNFO won't tell you anything about the temps of the VRAM modules...

Just make sure you properly paste your die.
