Does it hurt the hard drive on the mini 9 to run the disk check on it. I have heard that defraging it shortens its life.

Defrag hurts an SSD because moving the little blocks around doesn't do anything while writing to the drive shortens its life. As far as I know, the disk check should just read from the disk, so it shouldn't have any adverse affects.
