I tried an IDE enclosure and hole pattern is not the same, looks like the pins are closer to each other in my HD. I do not know if that is part of the ATA-5 interface/connector. I am kind of lost

Yep, thats IDE. AFAIK, IDE has no other tight or loose pin config, irrespective of ATA-5/6/7.

Which IDE connector did you try to plug in ?
I am aware of only two IDE connectors - 40-pin and 44-pin ?

I am counting 44-pins in the datasheet :D

(Ok, I'll upload a pic for you )

    S6301216.JPG

I believe you are getting confused due to those 4 pins at the corner. They don't go into the socket. And the 1 pin missing in the middle, will be counted as a pin. :p
So, in total --> 44 pins.

You are using a standard (Desktop) IDE connector which has 40-pins, "incompatible".

Try out the enclosures linked in #2, and at least you'll be able to get a refund/replacement from newegg, if I am wrong.... :p

Do you know if all the 2.5" HD use the 44 pin connector?

AFAIK, all 2.5" (Mobile) IDE/ATA HDDs use a 44-pin connector....
