I have the opposite of that. It's a S-Video to RCA(female) connector. Not the RCA(male) connector which you described. To me, the picture quality looks almost the same.

I've used a cable like that a couple times -- works great. Just plug it into the TV and go, since I have an ancient ass tv that doesn't support S-Video.

could you post a link or the one you have or similar device??

i also have all old tv's around the house/school so the s-video to s-video doesn't work out too well

Yeap, I've used one and it worked well, the issue being if you get a really cheap one it might die (and how cheap is cheap, well that's the question!)

that overstock cable says it has 1 S-video and 3 RCA terminals. video only requires 1 RCA, and S-video does not carry sound, correct? what are the other two RCA terminals for?

There are major differences between the female and male connector. To help illustrate this problem, consider the female and male human genitals(this is will G rated of course, hopefully) The female connector has a round hole which is similar to a female genital part located somewhere in the lower region of the body. The male connector has cylindrical tip which is similar to a male genital part located again somewhere in the lower region of the body. Now, connect the female and male connectors together, and what do you get? If you know what I'm talking about, excellent. If not, you might want to talk to your parents about the "Bird and the Bee"

So I have the female connector which allows me to use a male-to-male extension cable. It's hard to find female-to-male cables or female-to-female cables. Most TV's has the female connector for the video input. In your case, you have the male connector which should plug right into the TV video input.

The cable which dragonesse described is a video&audio cable. The video cable is the S-Video to 1 RCA cable(yellow plugs). The audio is the 3.5mm mini jack(green plug) to 2 RCA cable(red and white plugs). This is a stereo audio cable so there are two RCA plugs(left and right channel).

    go ask in OT ;)

and the overstock cable pictures a S-video to single RCA, but says the cable has 3 RCAs. without a 1/8 inch stereo jack, what do the other 2 RCAs do that are not the video?

Doh. I looked at the wrong link. The overstock described a unique cable. The 3 RCA cables you see are the "red, blue, green" cables. On high end video devices such as HDTV and projectors, these will usually have 3 video inputs for the red, blue and green color signals. So you will need 3 RCA cables to carry the distinct color signals.

yes, that is component video, such as this cable. but the first overstock link says S-video to composite video, which is the single RCA video connector.

Ah, I see what you're trying to say. I think Overstock made a description error on the cable. The image of the cable is definitely a S-Video to 1 RCA cable and product title does say "10ft S-Video To Composite Rca" which mean 1 RCA. But the description(this was where I didn't notice the error), it stated "1 x 4-pin S-Video Male & 3 x RCA Male" connectors. I think this is incorrect but I could be wrong. You could email Overstock and get a confirmation on the cable.

I didn't see anyone answer this question about the cablestogo link with the 3 RCA connectors, the red and white and right and left audio in addition to the yellow video one.

Sorry if this was explained already but it doesn't look like it was.

the cablestogo cable had a 1/8 inch audio input on one end that connects to the red and white RCAs, and the S-video that connects to the yellow RCA. So the 1/8 jack goes in the headphones port on the laptop, the S-video goes in the S-video, and the 3 RCAs go in their spots on your TV.

    I am interested as well.

The other day I was just thinking I need to get a cable like this. Not that I have an old TV but perhaps in a hotel or something...

yeah well i think the s-video to rca is much better than a strictly s-video just because all tv's, vcr's, etc. have the rca jacks but not everything has the s-video.

it should be good for watching dvd's or movie clips on the tv for my roommates to watch along instead of huddling around the lappy :)
