Hi!
I've just bought a new 60gb Hitachi 7k100 off eBay which was being sold as "used".
When I check the S.M.A.R.T. data, it reports as little as 20 hours of usage (my usage !)
Is the s.m.a.r.t. data reseted when you change the drive from a computer to another ?
Is it possible to reset that counter to zero ?
Or the drive is basically brand new ?

I don't think SMART data is deleted when a drive is removed - I think the info is stored solid state somewhere on the hard drive's PCB.
This is interesting actually. I think SMART depends on a relationship between the BIOS and the hard drive, so I wonder what info is permanent after removal. Test it out! -
I still have the old drive, and I have an 2.5" to 3.5" adapter ... I might be able to compare the S.M.A.R.T. readings on my desktop and on my laptop for the same drive !
S.M.A.R.T. power-on hours count, how reliable ?
