    I have a friend with a Hitachi 5K250 HTS542525K9SA00

It is a SATA 1.5Gb/s, his computer broke, and he has stuff on the hard drive to recover. I took apart my laptop to insert the HDD to retrieve his information, but his port on the Hitachi 5K250 HTS542525K9SA00 is different from all of my laptops in the house.

Is there a way I can get a cable or something for this Hitachi 5K250 HTS542525K9SA00 to a USB cable to retrieve these files?

Any help please or links to the solutions, I hope I will not have to spend too much.

The socket does not have the 2 mini L shapes, it's just 15 + 7 pins in the shape of a rectangle.

Thanks guys any helps is appreciated.

This is what it looks like!

Have you considered using something like this

    Vantec 2.5"/3.5"/5.25" SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter - Model CB-ISATAU2 - Newegg.com

    OR

Amazon.com : 2.5 SATA HDD USB Adapter w/ Silicone Case : Computer Cable Adapters : Computers & Accessories

I have been looking up your hard drive and it appears to be a pata drive, but has an adapter attached to it (what you are describing, 15+7 pin).

Is there anyway for you to remove that particular piece off of the hard drive?

Also, is this hard drive from a compaq computer?

    No problem

it looks like Compaq attached its own proprietary adapter to the pata drive and you can buy either of those adapters that I linked (or you have your own) and everything should be good.

It's not a proprietary, it's just a HDD interposer. Dell/Alienware, HP, have used them for a long time.
