I've got a salvaged HDD with this connector...

I'm trying to see if this HDD is any good, but my IDE/SATA-to-usb adapter only has the pin style connection. Is there some sort of adapter I need to get to connect the two?

    Thanks!

Does the type of connector on this HDD have a name that differentiates it from the SATA HDD's that use a pin style connector?

    The other type is IDE.

SATA is serial, IDE is parallel.

The notebook computer it came out of may have used an adapter on the drive.

Off hand, I don't know about serial vs. parallel, but the adapter I have is labelled for use on both SATA and IDE, but only has pin style connectors. It does not have the connector that would fit this drive :(
Does this connector have a name?

Yeah, no pin type SATA connectors as far as I know.

What model of adaptor do you have? Is it possible to 'pull' the pin connectors off and it may expose the proper SATA/Power connectors underneath? What does the manual say about this?

Also, on your adaptor - is it possible that the SATA/Power connection is under a well hidden access cover?

    Good luck.

No details? (To possibly help the next person with)?

Too bad about the HD, but glad you solved it.

I thought my adapter was labelled for use with SATA. It wasn't. Also, I was getting SATA and ATA confused. I put the drive into a laptop and it make a clunk sound and the laptop said no disk was installed.
