Can someone link me to a post or a different forum explaining SATA hard drives. I'm looking into buying one, but want to know more about them before I make a decision.

OR if someone wants to explain them be my guest.

SATA is the most common consumer interface for storage. It really has little effect on performance and is only needed to ensure compatibility between your notebook and your hard drive. Factors to consider for a hard drive would be physical size (make sure you get the right form factor and thickness, 1.8" and 2.5" are used for notebooks, 9.5mm is the most common height for 2.5"), and how much capacity you need. There are slight performance, power consumption (heat/battery life), and noise differences between 5400 and 7200RPM drives but it's difficult to generalize. If you post up the models you are considering, users here can direct you to which is best.

AnandTech has the best writeup I've read yet about Solid State Drives.

    Read it. :)
