Hi everyone. I posted this in the HP envy forum but I think it would be better off in this one.

I want to upgrade my HDD to a SSD and I have a question about the SATA number.
I have a HP envy 17 1190ea and I want to put a SATA 3 SSD in it. Will it be able to support that drive?

    Thanks in advance

No, your platform is too old to take advantage of SATA3.

It will work, just not at the maximum speed/performance possible.

Ok, thank you for that info. I'll look for a SATA 2 instead

If you see a good deal on a SATA 3 drive, go for it, it might not attain SATA III speeds, but it'll still work like a SATA II SSD would. If you prefer, get whatever drive fits your budget, but make sure to get one that is reliable.

    Thanks for the advice.
I think I’m going to go with a crucial m4 128Gb as it seams reliable and is in my price range.
