Do SATA notebook hard drives have the same connection as desktop SATA hard drives? Basically, would I be able to take a 2.5 inchSATA hd and connect it to a desktop as if it is a 3.5 inch one? Don't ask me why I want to do this... it's basically to backup files and I know there are easier ways but I have my reasons.

Thanks in advance for any help!

You can get an external adapter from Dell that will allow you to connect a Sata2 hard drive up to your laptop, but im not sure if the laptop sata inside is the same

The connection is not the same. There are adapters/caddies you can buy for desktops that will take a 2.5" drive. Try www.Newegg.com.

Yes the connectors are the same. I plugged two sata notebook drives into my desktop to clone the contents of one to the other.
