    hi guys,

my new m1330 should be here in a couple days and i want to upgrade the stock 5200 disk. what i want is an ata500 7200drive about 120gig.... but i cant find one anywhere!!!! the only ata500 7200 drives are sub 100gig, all the others are ata300

is this normal? is there a reason for it and what are the performance implications for going ata300 vs ata500?

    Cheers guys,
    Will

Say what? I wasn't even aware they made a new SATA standard beyond SATA2 (SATA300).

sata500?? Have i miss something? As i remember the best notebook-drive is the 7k200 with 200gb and 7200rpm, but it is not available at the moment. I like the hitachi drives, so you could get an 7k100 with 100gb and 7200rpm. I have one and love it. On your place, I would wait a bit and buy an 7k200 when its available.

The standards are SATA 150 and SATA 300.

The drive you picked is a Seagate 7200.2 which is a SATA300 and is 7200RPMs it's one of the fastest conventional laptop harddrives out.
