Can you disable the cores on SB CPU's such as 2720,2820,&2920xm?

Nope. No way. Technically Impossible. Never heard of such a thing.

Wait a sec, perhaps the forum search might come up with several thousand answers, maybe even a how-to procedure for core parking that would achieve the same time............

well the cpu does that automatically, no need for you to fiddle with it, what you can do is to try throttlestop, however I never did use that tool, so I dont know if the option exist

With a Core 2 Duo it was possible to disable one core by BIOS.
Maybe this depends on the BIOS for SB CPU's?

When lightly loaded, Sandy Bridge CPUs automatically turn off cores and reduce the core voltage to zero.

The only option I can think of is if you go into msconfig - Boot - Advanced options and set the Number of processors. You will need to reboot after this. There is no way to turn cores off on the fly from within Windows.

Thanks for your info, i know on desktops we can disable cores. i was just curious because i like to play Starcraft2 which only uses 2 cores and if i turn off 2 of the cores then that would likely let the CPU turbo higher and stay cooler which is what turbo is based on. thanks again guys and gals if any.

You have four cores... now if the game only uses two cores, the CPU will swap the threads between the cores in use and the ones not in use all the time... which will result in lower temps and therefore in more turbo boost.
Disabling two cores won't be helpful in this case.
