It is slower with writing, but it's normal that smaller models are slower. Same for Intel.

Even so, Crucial C300 is fastest afaik.

Depends on your budget and usage. Enterprise drives are much faster than consumer drives but cost a couple times more per GB. For consumer drives the top drives use Marvell and Sandforce controllers.

If the writes are slower wouldn't that also increase the file copy times? Not that even at the slower rates it still isn't the fastest. I ask as I am very interested as well and it was being compared to the smaller 100GB Sandforce2. I am going SSD for primary for my P7805.

I am intending for fairly heavy Disk usage soon and want the fastest but also the most reliable I can get. While the cost is a consideration I am more than happy to pay the premium needed for that criteria..........

It's likely. But the FC test is only one of the benchmarks in that review. If you look at other benchmarks that are bottle necked by read performance the C300 still leads. Hard-Drive Roundup June 2010 - Load Times
    Techreport shows similar conclusions.

Here in Europe the Crucial is also cheaper than the Vertex 2 so that makes it an easy choice.

PS. Crucial.com sells directly to consumers.
