Is there a thread Around with promos, promo codes, or in general good deals for 2.5/mSata SSDs? I'm looking myself for one of each currently, and haven't found much for sales/promos/etc. Anyone have anything currently?
Cheers

Get the part number of an SSD you're interested in, go to google.com and enter that part number followed by 'best price in (your country here)'. Hit enter.

this is what I mean (for the 512GB Samsung 850 Pro):

Prices change soo fast, and new technology is always being released. A "thread" wouldn't really work, best is to do like tilleroftheearth said, read forums (like this forum) to find what models/sizes will work best for you, and then cross reference on google for more info and prices!
edit: I don't know if pricewatch is still good to use, but its what I used religiously a good 12-15+ years ago, site was awesome for finding best prices!

mods I'm not sure if posting links here is okay. If it's not okay than sorry! -

Did manage to find an 850 512gb model for 329.99 on ebay. Which is about the lowest price around. The 256gb drives seem the best deal.. its so hard to swallow that pill, considering the cost of the actual laptop, but i suppose its worth it. People with 500-800 in SSDs on their laptop must have a pretty nice system.
The 840 evo 512 at $219 is really, really tempting. But the 850 just seems like a better idea, and probably safer. -

Hey Guys,
To go with my next to be ordered Clevo P651SE, I'm looking up at SSD drives.
I've narrowed it down to two options:
Intel SSD 730 Series 480GB for 179€ with cashback included , or,
Crucial M500 SSD 480 GB for 149€, shipping included.
Which one should I go for? I read the Intel was a tad faster, is that worth the extra €? -
Performance 730. The Intel 730 is this gen. Crucial M500 is last gen. The 730 would definitely be my pick for a heavier workload as performance consistency is a strong point of the drive. It's also faster in lighter workloads. Not that you are going RAID, it's the fastest RAID0 drive.
This "real world" test shows how the drives will perform once they reach "steady state" as all drives will.

Neither of those.
As mentioned, the Crucial M500 is old now but runs too warm for my liking.
But the Intel 730 flat out runs hot and not recommended for mobile use.

Interesting read, thanks for the link.
What current SSD would you recommend in a laptop then? Samsung Sandisk??
Edit: Sandisk Ultra II 240GB available for 84€, only 2 hours left? Good deal or not? -

I would be looking for a SanDisk Extreme II or Extreme Pro at 480/512GB capacity or larger.
240GB capacity is just not cutting it anymore when 30% OP'ing is part of the picture (and yeah, it still is part of the SSD landscape, even at the end of 2014). -

Both machines are on 24/7/365. The rest differs. There are busy days and there are slow days.
I've never experienced any heat issues with them. The palmrest doesn't even feel warm, let alone hot.
They might or might not be less power efficient than other SSDs but since these laptops live plugged in I don't really care about it.

So, what would you guys recommend for a new laptop nowadays? I understand I should stay away from the M.2 as there is no real benefit. For the moment.
Should I go for a Crucial M550 or Samsung 840?
Might I add, I'll be using the SSD mostly for gaming/ OS on it. -
If you must stick with the "economy" class, I'd go with Crucial.
With that said - and presuming you're within U.S. - there are several drives that I'd prefer to either of these within a couple of bucks difference...
My $0.02 only... -
Crucial anytime.. stay away from the TLC ssd's like the 840 Evo!!
