Can someone explain to me the hardware encryption possibilities for an Intel mSATA SSD (310 series)? For example, does it support ATA password, and is the ATA password the same as the bios drive password?

I'm not interested in hearing about software options (like Truecrypt), just the hardware options for a Thinkpad T420. Thanks.

There is no mention from Intel that it has built-in encryption. I already addressed this in response to your post in the Lenovo subforum. If you want built-in encryption, get a 320 or 510.

The ATA password appears to be one of those BIOS drive passwords, yes. You would probably see at least two... need to choose the right one.

either use bitlocker or just plain simple directory based encryption in Windows 7. It is actually easier to manage this way as there is recovery options.
