    Hi,

I am looking to upgrade my Inspiron 1520 to make it faster, so I am thinking to get the below SSD internal hard-drive:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231221

So I just want to be sure that my Inspiron 1520 will accept such kind of internal Hard-Drives and will it really make a difference to my PC speed (boot time, loading, etc...)?

Currently, my hard-drive is the normal/defult one 160GB (5400RPM). Also, I have the latest BIOS version.

    Thanks in advance...

im pretty sure it will work..but as you can see the drive is SATA II (3.0gb/s) while your laptop is only capable of SATA speeds (1.5gb/s)

i think that you will see a big improvement on boot time and loading applications.
also it will use less battery :D

of course it will made a difference to boot speed, loading, and general things, however it is a shame that you have SATA instead of latest SATA II interface. this will actually becomes a bottleneck with SSD drive.

Can I upgrade my laptop to fully support SATA II drives, and how can I know my interface type (if it is SATA or SATA II)?

You can use an SSD in your Inspiron 1520. It will run at the full SATA2 speed. If you get a good SSD, you will find it a significant improvement over your current spinner. The SSD you have selected is not a good SSD. It is based on a JMicron controller which is known to have very poor IO performance.

Get a drive with a controller made by Intel, Samsung, Mtron, or Indilinx.

JMicron controller really does have a bad quality, you should choose the other recommended options above for your SSD HD..
