    SSD Not performing to its potential. Crucial M4 128GB

    Below is an image of what speeds it is currently running. After poking around the internet today I think I can do much better.

    I am hoping someone here might be able to help with the intermittent freezes. I believe it has to do with LPM from what I have read but all the fixes I have read are for the C300.

    I recently made sure TRIM was enabled. I am using a T400 which is probably limiting its speeds but I think it still has tons of room to improve. What else can I do to speed up my SSD while still keeping it reliable?

    Mobile series 4 Intel chipset, SATA II. That's about as good as it's gonna get. There are a few tweaks that will get you a tad more speed, but most aren't worth the trouble imo. You could try disabling core parking though.

    Can anyone here help or walk me through LPM and whether turning it off on my M4 will fix the intermittent freezes? I have read all the registry edits but would feel better understanding what is happening before I trust something written on a forum.

    I can't walk you through it since i haven't run into the intermittent freeze problem myself, but i do believe it'll likely fix the freeze problem. Did you check what the firmware on your M4 was, it should be 000F.

    It says I am running 0309. Last time I checked I was quite certain I was running 000F. Does it sound like I need an update?

    I would update to 000F. It should solve the issue.

    There isn't much speed lost when using a 128GB M4 in SATA-II, only on sequential reads really.

    Yup, you should upgrade to 000F, you can either do it through a bootable disc or a bootable flash drive. The instructions for each method are available on Crucial's website along with the firmware file of course. I would backup the drive before, the update is non destructive and i've never had a M4 firmware update go bad on me, but better be safe than sorry.

    There is something with pre series 6 Intel laptop chipsets that does give slower random 4K performance on windows 7.

    Your T400 is newer than my laptop, but I ran into the intermittent pausing w/a Samsung 830 on my T61p. Applying the LPM registry fix only to the affected drive fixed it completely. See http://forum.notebookreview.com/sol...ge/613245-samsung-830-ssd-25.html#post8287055.

    If you're hitting "Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period" events in your event log and the timestamps coincide w/when you're hitting intermittent pauses w/the drive light stuck on, then you're hitting it.

    I get a BSOD with my 128GB M4, when i come out of sleep mode, and i use any Intel SATA controller driver, If i use the Microsoft one i have not problems, I happened on 9 and i updated to the firmware to F and it still happens, I wish i had bought the Samsung 830 :(
