That's quite a budget for a hard drive... I've been hearing good things about the Intel ones. Do you really want 250GB of storage? I'd suggest holding off till Q4, but you're too impatient. ;)

Check out the SSD thread, I posted a link to Dell. They are selling the Samsung 256GB drive for $480 (the drive that the two you selected are based off of). You could even get two if you are lucky enough to find a coupon :D

Can someone enlighten me and explain what is the deal with writing on these drives? Is there any limitation with regards to how many times you can write? I also heard that it is not recommended to use defragmentation software on them.

    Thanks

If you buy a SSD just for boot time, then you're wasting your money. It's about the responsiveness in a working environment. I have a Seagate 7200.3 HDD that can get into Windows 7 in 10 seconds, doesn't mean that the drive is faster than an SSD.

That's because it leaves a 'Redirect' so that people can still find it. The actual thread is in the hardware forum.

What's with the huge discrepancies between the two graphs?

edit: nm two different computers, I thought they used a standardized test bed (as I've seen them claim but I guess it's only within that one review)

But still the Intel's results fluctuate...
