First of all, sorry for the amount of threads I've been making lately on SSD's. I was originally planning to buy the Kingston HyperX 240GB SSD, but it is quite expensive, the cheapest I can find it in Australia is $570. I would rather go a bit cheaper, and use the excess money to buy RAM.

Which are some very high end SSD's, which are not as expensive as the Kingston? I really hate sacrificing speed..

I don't know about where you are, but the Crucial M4 is usually the best priced 240GB+ SSD for SATA 3.

Would there be an noticeable difference between the M4 and the Kingston? It seems the latter is getting an average read speed of 100mb/s faster than the former, surely that's noticeable?

    No.

Also, I'm curious, was the 2820QM on sale when you ordered it? Seems like it's the standout processor having really nothing going for it. No offense.

Well, it wasn't on sale, but I just felt a lot better purchasing the M17x with the 2820, rather than the 2720, I know I probably wont see a difference, but I like having the extra power, and if in a few years I make use of that extra power, I'll be much happier I bought it.

That's why the 2920XM unlocked is there. That's a difference. The 2820? Not at all.

If you can make an order change, I would.

They didn't offer the 2920, not with the M17x. I bought it complete for 2950 or so. If I ordered the lowest processor it might be around $2400, to buy a 2920 will cost me a lot more than $550, and a lot more trouble. Which means I'll most likely spend another 400 dollars. That's just too much.

If you absolutely want the fastest SSD, get something with 32nm Toggle NAND like the Vertex 3 MAX IOPS or the Patriot Wildfire. Since you mentioned the HyperX, I'm assuming you're willing to take the compatibility risk?

    The HyperX has compatibility issues?

All SSDs with SF-2xxx controllers do, and the HyperX is one of them.

I'm not sure how widespread the compatibility problem is, but it's a significant minority.

Hmm, I see, I guess I may as well go for the M4 then. The 510 is quite a bit more expensive.
