Hey guys. My new laptop just arrived, and I'm going to be looking to put in a new SSD during the 4th of July sales. Can anyone recommend what I should get, or which brands to avoid?

I'll be looking at about 400gb capacity, and I'd prefer not to break the bank too much, or the computer at all!! I've got a 240gb Intel 520 currently installed, do I have to go for the same brand or can I go elsewhere if they're cheaper and as good / better?

I would stick to either a Crucial M4, Samsung 830, or Intel 520/330. There have been lots of deals all of the aforementioned so you should find yourself a decent deal. There are even a few going on right now if you wanna head over to the deals and tech bargains board.

If you must go away from those 3 I would recommend Corsair/OWC/Mushkin at the next level.

And avoid OCZ unless you get the most amazing deal you've ever seen, though still be prepared to deal with the consequences if/when anything goes wrong.

Ok, so new egg has 256gb Corsair M4's at about $240, and 250gb Intel 520's at $100 more.

Without getting into the red/green debate, is that similar to AMD/Nvidia, where Intel trade off their name, or are they actually that much better or more reliable?

Also, I've heard a few good things about Kingston - are they good, or too new to the market to judge?

Thanks for the help, by the way :)

As for SSD drive makers starting w/C, you want the Crucial M4. You don't want drives from Corsair.

I have a corsair M4 and I am not disappointed so far although I only have about a week's experience to show for it :)

Let's not confuse or mislead people. Do you have a Crucial M4 or some other model of Corsair drive? They are NOT the same company.

I wouldn't touch drives from Corsair.
