I have a old Samsung SSD, MCCOE64G5MPQ-0VA to be exact that I would like to use as an external drive. It shows up as unallocated but when I try to initialize it I get "device not ready". I used to use it as a boot disk and had no issues with it. I've tried every single machine in my house, different enclosures, different USB cables, nothing. Why won't this thing initialize?

Moved to Hardware subforum - you'll probably get more replies there.

Are you sure it's not defective? Device not ready could be a sign of a logical failure.

    Let me guess...

Your SSD is encrypted. You need to decrypt it before you can use it as USB drive?
