    hello everyone,

bought my mum a T540p, pn: 20BE004EUS. I'd like to add an M.2 SSD to it, but have a couple questions, concerns.

if anyone in the know can solve my problem immediately, please suggest a 128GB and 256GB solution where we can use the M.2 socket and retain the 500GB HDD for storage purposes.

    that aside:
    - don't know much about M.2 SSD's, but I do believe there are several form factor standards? what standard does the T540p require?

    - will the system see the SSD as a stand alone drive, or will the system try to use it as a cache drive? I want it to become the OS drive and let the original 500GB it came with become a storage drive.

thank you for your assistance! :)

You need a 42mm M2 SSD aka 2242, and your options when it comes to these are very limited.

My Digital SSD offers a 128GB version. Transcend a 256GB, although I personally wouldn't touch anything that comes from the latter manufacturer...

Other manufacturers will be joining "the club" soon...if I were you, I'd wait.

As for your other question, just install the OS directly on the SSD once it's in place and you're good to go.

    Good luck.

thank you for your reply ajkula. would the ADATA SP900 2242 M2 work or is there another consideration that needs to be made when choosing a 2242?

    appreciate the guidance. :)

    SandForce controller...I'd pass...

Soon enough serious players such as Intel, Crucial/Micron and Samsung will start offering SSDs in the 2242 format...I'd wait.

    My $0.02 only...
