Well, obviously it isnt a normal SSD disk.
So when pc-mod-people are considering SSD, they should def. pay great attention to this beast.
Ive no idea how it can be that much faster?

Does it have to do with PCI-e?

PCI-E SSD's are nothing new, there was one earlier this year that supposedly had reads/writes of 1000MB/s.

That's sequential read/write though... what about random 4K ones?
That's where the controller becomes important.

Obviously price as you mentioned - but also size and with that many Flash chips potentially heat.

The price of a 2TB PCI-E SSD is not even in the same consumer class as SATA drives. I think the 80GB Fusion IOXtreme was around $700, this will be far into the thousands.

There are plenty of enterprise customers, who know how to research PRICES, who are more than willing to pay that kind of money for that kind of performance.

The consumer/enthusiast sandbox is just that, a sandbox. There is a whole wide world out there beyond x86 and windows desktops.

Now why would it take 10 long yrs?
Is it usual for top notch new tech to develop an easy price at such a staggering rate?
Could you name a previous new technology that went through the same pricing process?

Someone whose other alternative is a disk array to run databases with sufficient IOPS.
