Ok, ive got a simple question. & The only answer I can think of would be
" the power supply of the hard drive gives it a heck of a boost"
Here's the deal:
Im transferring files between my notebook and desktop.
Ive got a 16GB SSD mp3 player (Cowon S9)
versus
A Seagate FreeAgentDesktop 500GB.
When plugged into my notebook.. the Seagate ravishes @ 4 MB/s.
But when I use my mp3-player to transfer files it doesnt even get half that transfer rate??
Im on Windows 7 Ultimate, if that matters. I just wanna know what the deal is.
Is there any way to upgrade transfer speeds without stealing USB 3.0 technology?![]()

My WD Passport (2,5" runs of the USB) can get up to 22MB/s sequential write speeds - reads can be a bit faster.
I think something is very wrong with your USB... (drivers, hardware etc.) -

Speakign of speeds... I think something in the realm of 4MB/s is when I get to transfer smaller files between drives via the same external USB hub....

Larger files give it just that while as smaller ones keep abruptly stopping it.. sucky. There isnt any software problem, did some googlin and found this really handy tool called PC Pitstop. All my drivers were up to date but it did find massive problems with firefox -
But if you get such slow speeds via USB on large and small files then something is wrong - and its not USB that's at fault.
