i have a 128 gb ssd (see sig) as a boot drive, with all my standard software installed there and only about a third full, and a 500 gb hdd as a data drive (also about a third full). i've noticed that when i'm running some software, e.g., acrobat reader, or thunderbird, they sometimes become unresponsive, say for more than a few seconds. is there someway of figuring out whether this might be due to the ssd or due to the software itself or due to something else?

Could you post a screen shot of the AS SSD Benchmark application without running the benchmark?
AS-SSD can be downloaded here: http://alex-is.de/PHP/fusion/downloads.php?cat_id=4&file_id=9 -
here's the AS-SSD screenshot (i ran the benchmarks anyway out of curiosity).

What version of Intel RST are you running? I noticed that v10.8 makes all my mobile systems much less responsive than v10.6 for example. Up to and including the 'stuttering' you're experiencing too with the newer driver.

Sounds very similar to the LPM bug that initially plagued the Crucial M4, the SSD that uses the same controller.
You might want to try the LPM tweak to find out if it is. -
it looks like i'm running IRST 10.6.0.1002. the unresponsiveness does not occur most of the time, but when it does, it's frustrating when the whole point of the ssd is to make the system more responsive.

Here's the LPM fix. It might be worth a try.

I was looking at the LPM fix, and was looking at the registry entries under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\iaStor\Parameters\ but it seems that there is no PORT parameter defined and nothing about LPM. should i look elsewhere in the registry, or should i simply define a new PORT parameter? is the registry entry different for my Plextor SSD?
SSD or software or other issue?
