So I have no idea about SSDs in general and was looking for advice. I want to place this into my secondary HDD bay which is currently utilising a 7200rpm 500GB drive. I already have a 64GB SSD in my primary but that's basically a Windows/DOTA 2 drive and nothing else.

I was wondering if the following two SSDs would A) fit in my unit (laptop in sig) and B) if there were any better options. I'm after reliability over anything else and if you know of anything cheaper/better for the price, I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Basic SATA - Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5 inch Basic SATA Solid State Drive: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

    Crucial M500 SATA 240GB 6Gb/s - Crucial CT240M500SSD1 2.5-inch 240GB M500 SATA 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

yes they fit, also I fail to understand why get top-tier SSD if it doesn't give significant edge over a normal person. But wasting money on swag and yolo, no point..
    m500 is good and cheap

What are you classifying as Top Tier? The Samsung? For an extra 10GB, an extra £10 doesn't seem overly expensive and I hear it's more reliable.

samsung have the fastest read/write and are classed as the best unless this has changed as theve now updated their 830.
i would of ordered one but at the time they didnt make a 512gb drive so i went for the crucial M4 which has been perfect for my needs.
boot up time and on website used to be 10-12 seconds compared to previous 7200 which was roughly 20-25 seconds.

for an extra £10 its a no brainer really.

I already have a fast boot due to my primary 64GB SSD but was just considering getting a 250GB SSD for my secondary bay for the bonus of improved load times on most of my games.

Will I need to buy like a new HDD caddy or anything to fit it into the bay or should it just slot into my existing setup without issues?

as youve got the 17" im guessing it has a bay ready for the drive. you only need a caddy if you want to put another hard drive in the optical disc drive.
i will check the manual when i get a chance.

Thanks man. I got a nasty surprise when I first bought my 500GB SSD and found out that I needed a caddy that wasn't included with the laptop/drive (and was on the other side of the world when it happened). I've got two separate bays included already, one with my primary SSD and the other with the HDD. It should be fine but I always like to double check.

just in case check with supplier or hopefully someone else can advise as i only have the 15" so only have 1 slot.

the manual says upto 2 changeable 2.5" 9.5mm so as long as they are the same size it should fit.

I'd get the Crucial... I've had a C300 and have used it for almost 4 years and have had barely 15% wear... Still going strong.. I must have written tons of data to it... Also, the Samsung Basic is not as good as the Pro.. The Crucial beats the basic one from the benchmarks I've seen...

Really? Because in the game load test here the Crucial does really poorly: SSD Consistency Testing - 18 Drives Tested for Real-World Performance - Benchmarks - PCMark 8 Steady State Worst Case | TweakTown

I'm not entirely sure on the subject though so I could be wrong.

Make sure the connection in the bay is SATA III to take full advantage of the speedy SSD.
