I am new to SSD and want learn more about this. Right now I have DELL Latitude E6420 (i5 processor) with 8 GB. But when I open couple of Visual Studio instances and Photo Studio applications then system will slowdown. I am thinking add 120 GB or 250 GB SSD in the slot (By removing DVD slot).
So I would like know from gurus , will that helpful to run these application fast? Someone told me that I need to install OS and apps under SSD memory to run fast? is it true?

If you want to improve read/write times on the OS and programs, then yes, you must install those on the SSD. For the best performance, you'll want to go for a high-capacity drive (240GB or better), as smaller-capacity drives of the same SSD model will be a bit slower than the higher-capacity versions.
Traditionally, however, you install the SSD into the main HDD bay, and anything else into secondary bays like the ODD bay. At least that way, if you want to use your DVD drive again, you can remove the HDD (which will be for bulk data) without messing with the OS or program installs. -
Will the SSD speed up your system is that use case: possibly. You gotta make sure that you're I/O bound on the drive rather than running out of RAM or that your CPU isn't being taxed enough that it slows down things. You can check whether you're running out of RAM and hitting the page file using the performance monitor in Windows, the task manager and resource monitor can also give you an idea of whether you're running out of RAM or whether you're having your CPU used at 100% for your particular use case.
