The SSD I'm planning on getting does not support TRIM. I'm going to use XP anyways. What utility should I get to keep things fresh? I know about the tweak utility. I'm talking about "garbage" collection and things I might not be aware of.

You should not be looking for a utility to 'keep things fresh' - you should be looking for an SSD with a controller that is highly optimized on the Garbage Collection side of the equation (vs. the TRIM side...).

The one I would be looking at is here:

Do note though that this will really kill your battery life - but the performance on any O/S will be as fast as it can get. Oh! One more thing - this will also wear out the nand faster too...

The worse SSD to be considering is anything SandForce based.

The Intel G2 is still highly recommended (especially in your case).

Of course, any SSD you get can be Secure Erased to bring it back to full performance - but not only is this a silly method of having the 'best' performance - it can be dangerous by the fact that it might kill (brick) your SSD at any time.

    Good luck.

I got the Supertalent Duradrive. It works great. I used Easeus to clone the hard drive. Should I have done something to the SSD beforehand? Also, what do you recommend to maintain that fresh feeling (on the SSD, I mean)?
