Manufacturers don't look at reliability first - they look at cost first, then reliability.
While I agree that controlling every variable in producing an SSD should lead to a better product it doesn't mean that it will be better performing too.
The Samsung SSD's that I'm familiar with (the early ones) didn't have much to recommend themselves with in the performance department - the 470 and the 830 changed that substantially but I still don't think of 'real' storage sub-system performance when I think of a Samsung SSD. -
I think for you the performance is matter as compare to reliability. I don't want BSOD after paying hefty amount and even I don't have time for replacement. The reliability is most important factor for me.

Apart from Intel Samsung has the best track record in the business.
A drawback with the 800 series is the asynchronous nand, though. This is something the drive makers still insist doesn't matter - but benchmarks repeatedly prove otherwise, especially when it comes to long term and post-TRIM performance. -
