What is fast: SSD+HDD vs 2xHDD RAID 0?
I'm considering the following parts:
SSD+HDD:
-Intel X25-M Mainstream SSDSA2M080G2XXX 2.5" 80GB SATA 3.0Gb/s
-(?) 500GB SATA 5400RPM
2xHDD RAID 0:
-HITACHI Travelstar 7K500 HD20500 2.5" 500GB SATA 3.0Gb/s 7200RPM 16MB
In fact I wanna decide what's the best investment for a US$ 200 upgrade: 2 fast HDDs (Travelstar 7K500) in RAID 0 or a SSD (X25-M) + the stock HDD.
Any ideas?

SSD is faster.

I would go for the SSD since you already have a 5400rpm HDD, therefore, making the price difference not as much. Though if I have a choice, I will just order 2 7200rpm HDD at the start if possible, much cheaper than SSD option.

SSD+HDD: US$ 219.99 (just the X25-M cause I already have the HDD)
2xHDD: US$ 199.98 ($99.99 each 7K500) -

nice price for the intel!
i'd go for the ssd, too.
fzhfzh, while your statement is true, i just thought.. how many laptops come without hdd actually? -

I'd definitely go with the SSD combo as well, your data is more secure that way, and the performance will be better.

I have the SSD/HDD combo...boot and loading times are excellent, and I still have lots of room for media.

SSD+ HDD combo is best...

You cannot beat the random access speeds of an SSD, which is the main advantage of one, with two hard drives in RAID0. Not even close.

I bought an extra 320 GB 7200 rpm drive for RAID-0 because I couldn't afford an SSD, and the sequential read/write throughput is almost exactly double, but the random access times are the same.
