How much time would you expect to add to battery life if a 7200/rpm harddrive is replaced with an SSD drive?
Let's say ASUS G73 has 1h30 battery-life with the 7200.
How much with an SSD?
Is it significant?

G73 getting 1.5hrs battery life means it's 77Whr battery is being depleted at an average of 55W. That's *HUGE*. A SSD will provide noteworthy battery life extensions if you are at < 10W instantaneous consumption, where 1W saving means 10% longer battery life. At 55W, 1W represents 2%. 2% extra battery life for you would be 2minutes. Not worth it from a battery life perspective. A Intel X25M SSD would be worth it to improve boot times and application response.

Think of it this way.. You can get more things done in the same amount of battery life with the SSD. Lol... The most power hungry components in laptops are usually the CPU,GPU, and monitor. Other things just won't have that much of an affect.

I went from a Seagate 5400.6 to a Intel G2 80GB and did not notice any increase in battery life.
Maybe with a Samsung controller you'd get a bit more battery life. -
I am not using a big system but with my Acer Timeline I use now, I can squeeze around 10 hours out of a laptop that claims 8 hours possible battery life. I use to see the difference on my M1330 as well but it was nothing staggering, maybe 45 minutes.
I can't account for a bigger machine at all but I would expect it to be more significant with a smaller machine because of the greatly reduced fan use and less heat. On this system, my fan is just never on.
You will see a very visible difference n the bigger system however moving from the HD to ssd, especially if you are a gamer. Load times for the game as well as loading of pages as you move throughout the game are apparently significantly better. -
I swapped out a 5400rpm HDD which according to the spec sheet should have been the most energy efficient out there for a 160GB Intel SSD.
Battery life gain - on max Battery saver (a Vaio one) maybe 12,5%
My battery wear brought me down to about 4 hours on battery with the HDD (wear has since increased)
On the SSD it went back up to 4,5h
Also, a SSD will tax the battery less opening a programme like dreaweaver compared to a HDD.
If you only ever open 1 program - say word and then type, it won't matter too much.
If you open and close programmes the difference can be quite substantial. -

for ur G73 , the SSD won't cause increase in battery life... but it might be 1/2 a minute or so...but if ur getting an SSD for better battery life , forget it... if ur getting it for more performance , its ur best option.
