Is there any other 200gb+ SSD that would have software to manually trim the drive like the Intel X25-M G2 drives (the Intel SSD Toolbox)?

Get a drive with the SandForce controller - like the OWC Mercury Extreme or the OCZ Vertex 2. These do not suffer from slowdowns as they reportedly TRIM on-the-fly. A little more expensive, but worth it!!

I have a Vertex 2 SSD 240GB for sale at the moment (brand new sealed). Keep an eye on the for sale threads as I will list it up in the next day or two.....

The Intel doesn't slow down either - no change over 500GB of writes and no Trim for me.

Also, the Intel drives Trim on the way too with the right driver - from Win7 on - the Sandforce drives would work 100% the same.
I.e. you wouldn't get trim on XP or Vista.
(I'm on Vista :) - better than Win7 which actually self destructed on me when I once actively used it)

And I'd actually just get Intel for the trust you can place in their drives :)
They are also the only one with Software Trim as far as I am aware.

The "trim on the fly" doesnt completely work and it will slow down in time, thats why i want a manual trim software like the intel ssd toolbox to come with it.
If thats not possible i will just have to wait for Q4 and the G3 Intel X25-M drives with capacities up to 600GB...
Was just hoping there is something 200gb+ with manual trim out now, but it seams its not...

    Ummm.......

Can u offer support that TRIM on the fly will slow down over time? Did u read this somewhere?

Also... Detlev... Can I ask u a favour? Wanna fill your Intel completely and do a Crystal?

This is one source, but i had a better one.. will post it if i manage to find it again (was about vertex 2 degradation over time, even with using windows 7 and its trim function, but cant remember what i googled).

That's a failure of Crucial's firmware, not a failure of TRIM. Big difference. Trim, when the firmware implements it properly, does not need to be manually run.

I cant find the damn thing anymore, but what it said (and it had good proof to back it) is, that the firmware that does idle garbage collection (trim while drive is idle) is very crappy and doesnt really do its job, but the real trim firmware, that actually trims as you delete a file (with windows 7 only of course) is much better, but still seams to miss a few trims here and there, and thus after very long usage (or as they did it alot of rewriting at once) the drive does slow down and requires a space consolidation with something like the tony trim method...

Id just feel much more at ease if i found another SSD that would have some sort of software like the Intel SSD Toolbox to manualy trim the drive, so i am sure it retains its full speed (my X25-M G2 still has the same speeds as the day i got it). If i pay so much for something i want to be absolutely sure it keeps working as it should even after years worth of usage.

If you tell me how to fill it completely I can do it.
(And don't tell me its randomly duplicating large files :D)

Whell you could just copy files you already have until you fill it, that should work.
Do a benchmark before, after you fill it, and after youve deleted those copied files.
That would be awesome if you could do it :D

    OK.
Then I'll just get a little video I did... 700MB per copy... and I'll see what the results are - they'll be in safe mode.
