I ran Furmark for 5 mins to check my M15x temps with settings of..
    -1920x1080
    -2AA MSAA
    -Stability Test
    -Xtreme Burning Mode

Checked my temps with AMD GPU Clock Tool

    With Stock clocks I get...

    ASIC Temperature TSS 0 77c
    ASIC Temperature TSS 1 94.5c
    ASIC Temperature TSS 2 82.5c

Ill run my clocks at 700/1000 next and let you know....but Im wondering what are the safe temps to keep my 5850 at?

Just ran clocks overclocked to 5870 speeds which are 700/1000 and ran furmark with same settings for 5 mins....

    ASIC Temperature TSS 0 80c
    ASIC Temperature TSS 1 98c
    ASIC Temperature TSS 2 85c

Since no one has posted in 5 minutes I will give my not so expert advice. If memory serves me well people in general like to keep temps under 90c. This is not the critical point. CPU's critical point is 100c/105c. GPU's are higher, I do not know what that critical point is.

If the chip gets too hot it will shut down to protect itself. That said GPU's fail often not because of the chip itself but the surrounding materials/PCB your GPU is a unit. I myself would consider 100c to be the limit for me. I would prefer under 90c but what the heck if OC under 100c would be cool with me.

That is my completely unscientific opinion. 700/1000? What are you trying to do, run 5870 clocks? I can OC mine (5870) to 850/1100. Good luck. Point of note. When I OC I get like 1 fps more on Crysis highest settings. Because of that I do not OC. Not enough advantage if you ask me.

I think with Furmark you'll get higher temperatures if you turn off anti-aliasing, actually

If I recall correctly, the 5850 and 5870 will shut down if the MemIO (TSS1) hits 110 degrees Celsius; you're quite a ways off that. It would probably be best not to run Furmark for long periods of time (why would you anyway?). Actual video games will generally result in temperatures lower by 5-10 degrees, so I wouldn't worry.
