So, I'm likely going to get a Sager, but I'm wondering how good this screen is?
Apparently there is a v5 out, and I know not all Glossy's are created equal.
For example, I went to Best Buy today and saw the Toshiba Glossy screen of their latest upper model, and HOLY cow, that screen was heads above clarity compared to all the other Glossy screens in the store. I almost want to buy that one because of it. But, sadly their gaming version of that laptop GTX 770 is suffering from heat crashing issues, they have a lower version a GTX 740, but I'm worried it might have the same issues, there are no reviews on it yet? Then also there's the fact I can't really upgrade much with the laptop, will be stuck with it, and it's a lower card, so even worse.
hmmm... I think maybe the v5 is actually "matte" it seems?
Also, according to Panelook.com the v4 is actually "discontinued", no longer in production.
So, is Sager actually giving us who want a Glossy screen, paying an extra $100-150 more to get it, actually giving us an "OLD" junkyier model, maybe their "left-over" models from last year when they used to have Glossy screens?

Just because it's "discontinued" doesn't mean it's bad or "junkyier" (is that even a word?). Sager does offer the best TN screens you can buy for laptops. I have yet to find a Clevo laptop with a "bad" LCD. Also the v.4 and v.5 frequently just refer to whether they have glossy or matte or other attributes. As far as I can tell the screens are identical just that v.4 is glossy and v.5 is matte.

Ya, further researching I was able to see that the v5 was matte.....
So, you're saying even the Glossy is among the best screens on the market?
Is a person able to get "after-market" screens, specifically a Glossy that is even "better"?
While I'm sure now the Glossy will be great, when I saw the Toshiba I was holy wing nuts!!!
So, it got me wondering if I could just get the matte since it comes free, and then get an even better Glossy from somewhere?
Any such thing? Like, is there a 95% Gamut Glossy?
BTW, are you "Larry"....? -
I recommend looking at these threads to get a better idea of what screen you want.

For purchasing after-market screens, AUO is one of the rather prominent screen companies. You can look up what screen you want and then see if Amazon sells it. So far that's the only solution I can come up with .
List of screens manufactured by AUO:

hmmm.... Weird. How come there are no 95% Gamut options anymore with all the vendors? Isn't that a better screen?
Although, a "small" # of laptops depending on the model have a 95% matte option.
However, I'm interested in the Glossy options.
BTW, I ended up taking the plunge with a MSI Gt70 20c-065US in a Glossy 90% screen.
Hope for the best....
I am still interested if I can get an even better screen after-market?
Like, why are they not doing the 95%'s any more?
Sager "Glossy" screen, need opinions AUO B173HW01 V.4... is it nice???
