Hello ladies and gentlemen! My first post, and sorry it has to be a noobish question. I lurk here quite a bit and you are all quite a nice community, so I apologize.

Anyway, it is a simple question. My desktop is not available to me for quite some time and I will likely be buying a new one before I have access to it again anyway. Therefore I am using my laptop at the moment for gaming away from home (I move around a a good bit).

It has worked great so far for the year or two I have owned it, I have if you have not guessed yet the sager 5760-v. It currently has a geforce go 7950 GTX. I would love to upgrade it to anything slightly better, perhaps a 8400, 8600 or higher. Whatever is possible if it is an upgrade, since at the moment these cards are pretty cheap.

The problem is I have searched around and I keep getting mixed results. I have discovered it is possible in some situations, and within sager it is once again possible in some situations. I have heard of people speaking about having 8600's in this same model, but I could not get a clear answer.

So to put it simply: Can I upgrade the video card before I go off and buy one? And if so, could you please tell me what would I be able to upgrade it with if you know?

If you need any more information to answer, please ask away and thank you in advance!

Shoot...only the 8800 might be an upgrade to the 7950GTX. I'd suggest you stay where you are at, because nothing is worth the money for the meager upgrade you'd get. Assuming you can even upgrade that laptop that is.

Even an 8800 GTS might not be an upgrade, you'd probably have to go full blown 8800 GTX.

The 7950GTX is the best card that the notebook can have, because it is an outdated model, the newer being the NP5790 which can house a 8800GTX. So basically you have the best card that's possible for that notebook.

Only 579x can upgrade to 8800M GTX

huh? 8800m gts is nearly twice as fast as 7950GTX. but this card is not available on the market anyway.

    Correct.

The Clevo M570U (Sager 5760) is the previous generation Clevo notebook using proprietary (non-standard) videocards. The top card for it is the 7950GTX (which you already have in there).

    Other upgrades:
    - CPU: up to T7600 ... i think (since its Napa platform)
    - RAM: up to 3GB .... limitation of the mobile Intel 945 chipset
    - HDD: any 2.5" SATA HDD still works fine
    - Wifi: any mini-PCIe wifi card would work
    - TV Tuner: like above
    - Optical Drive: can put in Blu-ray drive if you want.

That notebook should still play games fine, its still considered high-end with the 7950GTX.... which beats the 8600M & 8700M GT.
